“Sometime in the future in a state controlled society, conformity and homogeneity are the rule; a time when people have designations instead of names. A man, THX 1138, and a woman, LUH 3417, rebel against their rigidly controlled society…”
Matt Clark, Brighton based experimental guitarist and composer, performs an improvised live score to the film, interweaving with and adding to Lalo Schiffrin’s sparse original soundtrack.
Support from Cinerama [Stripped Back 3-Piece Format]:
In 1997… [David] Gedge (The Wedding Present) started work on a new project called Cinerama in which he indulged his love of film music from John Barry to Ennio Morricone via Serge Gainsbourg, Blaxploitation, easy listening and surf music!

In tandem with the live jazz band project (see previous post), I’ll be performing a live score to the film THX 1138 at Brighton’s Komedia in August, under the monika Phonoscene. Stay tuned for updates…
Matt Clark; Three is a new, rhythm based jazz project I’m starting. The music takes influence from the burgeoning new jazz scene on both sides of the Atlantic, but also throws a nod to influences as diverse as Krautrock, funk and hip-hop.
It’s a convergence ideas inspired by all the new music I’ve heard over the last couple of years, and aims to be more than just a gigging band. Think events, happenings, art installations, film scores…
It’s early days, but stay tuned for more…
I’ve at last got round to recording the first tracks for the experimental album I started back in March. I now have a SoundCloud page where I’ll be releasing the whole album over the next few months.
Enjoy…
I’ve decided to record a number of tracks for a new project, DADDAD, which I’ve been experimenting with for a couple of months now. The title comes from the tuning – DADDAD, and the plan is to record 6 improvised tracks using the notes as inspiration. It could turn out to be a really restrictive decision, but we’ll see!
Stay tuned for more updates on release dates etc.
